Giving Ourselves Space to Expand
Passage 6 - Tao Te Ching - Translated by Stephen Mitchell
When we give ourselves permission to let go of labels and pressures,
we step into limitless potential.
This limitless potential can be another name for emptiness mentioned in the Tao.
Emptiness is not the same as being without purpose or value.
The Tao invites us to see emptiness as an opportunity to rethink purpose and mission.
I can relate to this myself.
I had to accept that I couldn’t force things to be perfect.
I had to instead accept the gradual lessons and small wins with patience.
I learned to accept that if I lead with generosity,
everything became purposeful - I learned that losses were wins, rejections were acceptance.
Sometimes in life, we put so much pressure on ourselves that we feel heavy.
The same holds true in business.
Traditional business teaches us to prioritize progress over people or money over integrity.
When we operate like this, we will become burnt out and lose motivation.
Because we are not designed to chase money as a prize;
we are made to cultivate, steward and give - just as nature does.
Operating business with a mission-driven mindset is a learned skill.
And it’s never too late - or too early - to learn them.
