What does business have to do with spirituality?
For decades society has told business owners business is not spiritual.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
In every entrepreneurial journey, there is a major emphasis on trusting in the invisible.
This is the foundation for spirituality.
How Spirituality Appears in Business
When we show up daily even when the results aren’t there, we are practicing spirituality.
When we base our actions on the unseen operations we create in business, we are practicing spirituality.
When we trust in the realities we create more than the realities others want us to buy into,
we are practicing spirituality.
Spirituality is the backbone for a truly effective business.
What Happens When We Deny Ourselves of Approaching Business As A Spiritual Practice
When we resist the truth of business being a spiritual practice, we will find ourselves pushing
and forcing our way to results.
We may begin to feel exhausted and burned out.
We may also start believing other people’s advice is better than our own inner wisdom.
Most likely, we will chase external validation from numbers and likes rather than feeling satisfied with ourselves as we are.
And after we do this for a while we become disconnected from our intuitive instinct.
Once we are disconnected from our instinct we become more susceptible to being manipulated and misprioritizing actions or finances, digging us a deeper hole because we are not investing our time, energy and money where it truly benefits the business.
When we neglect business as a spiritual practice we will also pursue short term results and “hope” it leads to bigger and better ones rather than create a long-term plan that we follow from the start.
This is where I see small business owners and non-profit founders are operating from most commonly.
The truth is business is a journey within just like our spiritual practice — it is a dedication to detach from the ego and operate in a way that is disciplined and detached from results.
If you have been noticing you’ve been operating business from a place of the ego and would like to enjoy your journey again, I recommend reading my newest book, The Yoga of Business.
