Salt Lake City & Devils

This past weekend I got to experience the great city of Salt Lake.

I’d driven around the lake last year, but never got to explore the city. I think after seeing so many cities in the United States, they all kind of look the same.

Salt Lake reminded me of New England towns and old architectural buildings in New York and Philadelphia. Which also reminded me of St. Louis … oy, you see what I mean?

The city taught me a lot about patience and kindness.

At one point, we were driving in the cold rain, contemplating whether or not to explore the Mormon Temple. And then, being predictable me, said “I feel like I’ve seen enough Catholic churches that look the temple, I want to see something else …” So, we drove towards the far end of town where the rain became snow! It was perfect.

We drove to a tiny historical site that re-enacted pioneer life (and completely bamboozled the attempt to display reverence to indigineous people who inhabit the lands still today) … the visit was worth it all!

They closed the grounds and allowed us to enter without paying admission because of the snow.

So, we walked around, following geese and bird callings, and then found our way back to the car.

Finally, it was REAL snow! Not like the snow in Reno, where it’s thin, frail and melts as soon as it hits the sidewalk or your car. No, this snow was made of thick, luscious particles that actually stuck to wherever it landed. It was perfect for a good ol’ snow angel throw down. And then it reminded me of New England again…

So, while we met snow angels in Salt Lake, on the way home we finished one audio book that I was incredibly surprised that we hadn’t heard sooner ….

“Outwitting the Devil” by Napoleon Hill.

Synopsis: The devil describes the United States population as 2 categories - drifters and non-drifters.

Drifters are the sheep - unable to think for themselves, uncommitted to their purpose and slaves to money.

Non-drifters are the givers - they are clear-headed, know exactly why they do what they do, know exactly where they are going and are not bribed by money or possessions.

Everything in this book affirmed the journey I’ve been providing my clients for the past 2 years.

Interesting fact - before i launched the Legacy Brand Leader journey in 2018, I listened to Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” —- and everything I created for my clients emulated that book!

Well, I’m really encouraged that I once again was on the right track bringing life to resources, teachings and tools that would do Napoleon Hill (or the Devil) proud according to everything he taught in “Outwitting the Devil”.

I’ve highlighted the audio time markings that impacted ME most below - skip to these if you’d like, but do go BACK to listen to the whole book!

Audio markings I bookmarked:

  • 1:09:30

  • 1:52:28

  • 63:49
